Testing Procedures
After you have learned the techniques on the list you are working on and have had a chance to practice them diligently, you may want to think about testing. Here are some things that you might want to do to prepare yourself.
- Learn the names of the techniques. If you get nervous and need to be prompted, it's alright, but at some point you will have to know them, so starting early is a good idea.
- Be able to perform them pretty well. They don't have to be perfect, but they should be reasonably effective.
- Write up your descriptions of the techniques in your notebook.
- Ask someone suitable to be your uke.
- Let Lyle or Erin know that you are ready to test.
There are some other things you should know, like:
- Who the current, active AJJF Professors are.
- Who the founders of the AJJF were.
- Who your sensei is.
- What your lineage is.
- What the name of your dojo is.
- What the dojo lineage is.
We will never push a student to test; it is up to them. I will suggest when I think they are ready to test, but it is still up to them. Because there are two of us, I would like to arrange testing for the hour or so right before classes that Erin and I are present for.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the testing procedures, please speak with me or Erin, or e-mail or call.
